The secretary general of the CGT Sophie Binet appeared Wednesday alongside the deputies of the independent group Liot to support their bill to repeal the pension reform, expected on June 8 in the hemicycle of the National Assembly. At the end of this meeting at the Assembly with the elected Liot, Sophie Binet described "a very fruitful meeting, a way out of the crisis". Repealing the pension reform would make it possible "to move on and finally be able to talk about the real concerns of employees, the increase in wages, the improvement of working conditions, environmental issues," she said.

The Question of the Senate Stage

"I solemnly call on all MPs on June 8 to take their responsibilities and vote for this bill," insisted the union leader. "The difference between MPs, whatever their political colours, and the President of the Republic is that MPs, they are not locked in their palaces, they are a minimum in contact with the population."

But if the text passes the Assembly, how to pass the stage of the Senate, where the right supports the reform promulgated in mid-April? "We do things in stages. Here we are at the stage of the National Assembly. Then we will talk to senators. Bruno Retailleau (the boss of the LR senators) is not unaware of the state of anger of the country in the face of this unjust, violent reform," Sophie Binet replied.

A proposed social conference

At his side, the president of the group Liot Bertrand Pancher stressed the "very serious social and political crisis. We want to get out of it from the top" with this bill, he argued. His composite group, bringing together centrists, socialist dissidents, Corsican and overseas elected representatives, received Laurent Berger the secretary general of the CFDT the day before. In addition to the repeal of the postponement of the legal age to 64, the text proposes the convening of a social conference to review the issue of the financing of the pension system.

It was the subject of "first skirmishes" during an office of the Finance Committee on Wednesday, according to Charles de Courson, rapporteur of the bill. "It heated" on how to assess its financial admissibility. The Macronists accuse Liot of a proposal "which costs 15 billion euros" and whose authors "know full well that even if it were to be adopted, it would not go to the end" of its legislative journey.
