It is not common, but now Eskilstuna's oldest building will be renovated and also expanded.

According to vicar Johan Hedlund, the church needs to be renovated to adapt for the future. The old radiators will be replaced with district heating, the walls will be washed and the church hall will be more adaptable to different types of activities.

"The historical environment will live on. We want to open up the church so that everyone in Eskilstuna has access to this beautiful room, says Johan Hedlund.

The biggest change is on the outside where the congregation wants to make an extension that is anchored to the north gate.

Waiting for permission

However, there is still a great deal of work to be done before the church's visions become reality. So far, the necessary permits from Eskilstuna municipality and the County Administrative Board of Sörmland do not exist. However, the hope is that the pieces will fall into place during the autumn and that the renovation can start around the turn of the year. The inauguration is expected to take place a year later.
