"Presentation" education for children Nationwide visiting class by former bank employee May 5 9:16

"Japan people are not good at presenting"

is a common point in the business world.

The ability to present is acquired through the education of children.

There are former bank employees who continue to give visiting classes at elementary and junior high schools nationwide more than 100 times a year.

Presentation skills are not for business, but for confidence in what you say.

I worked closely with the class to change the world from children's education.
(Economic Affairs Department reporter: Kotaro Tanikawa)

What is the purpose of the presentation?

A public junior high school in Osaka.

Ms. Asuka Takeuchi, a former bank employee, began her enthusiastic class in front of 1 first-year junior high school students gathered in the gymnasium.

For the past eight years, I have been teaching presentation skills at elementary and junior high schools nationwide.

At the beginning of the class, Mr. Takeuchi gave a three-choice quiz.

"How has the number of people who die every year due to natural disasters changed over the past 100 years?"

(1) More than
doubled(2) Unchanged
(2) Less than half

"The answer is (3): 100% of what it was 1 years ago."

"How many one-year-olds in the world are vaccinated?"

(1) 1%(20) 2%(50) 3%

"The answer is (3): over 80%"

"As of 1996, black rhinos, tigers, and giant pandas were endangered species.

(1) Black rhino
(2) Tiger
(3) None

"The answer is (3): the conservation of endangered species is progressing rapidly."

Then, without pause, he continued:

"The world is getting better little by little, isn't it? Or did God change it, saying, "Humans, I'm doing my best, so let's change it a little"? That's not it right. Humans changed it.

Someone is trying to build a high embankment here. They told us to save not only our own children but also children in developing countries. Maybe there was someone who loved tigers and said, "I want to protect them." I think everyone laughed at me at first."

"But as I kept saying it, another person came out who agreed with me, and there was a person who said that we would raise money and that we should form an organization together, and we were able to continue every year. Wasn't that how the world changed?

You need to learn to present in order to convey your thoughts and change the world."

The purpose of this three-choice quiz is to first let people know why presentation skills are necessary.

Presentation ability = For withdrawn children

After covering the class for a while, I noticed that Mr. Takeuchi did not mention any presentation techniques or techniques.

1 Think deeply about
what opinion you want to express 2 Make a manuscript, but don't use it when presenting, and always look the other person in the eye

To sum it up briefly, there was only this much to teach.

However, what surprised me was the atmosphere of the place.

No matter what the children said, Mr. Takeuchi affirmed all of them, saying, "That's also correct!" and "The answer just now is amazing."

Then, for the presenters who took the stage, all the participants in the venue cheered loudly over and over again, saying, "If you do it, you can do it!"

According to Mr. Takeuchi, he consciously encourages people to create an atmosphere where they are allowed and praised no matter what they say.

Ms
. Asuka Takeuchi, Representative Director of Alba Edu, said, "I think that children who are confident in what they say by nature are also unconsciously guessed in class, so children who can do it will become much better and better. However, on the other hand, children who are withdrawn and thoughtful are not easily guessed by teachers. Then, that situation continues in elementary school, junior high school, and high school."

"To put it in an extreme way, I think there are many cases where the first time you are asked for your opinion is a critical phase of a job interview, and I think this educational gap is really frightening. That's why I want to raise the level of withdrawn children."

When I interviewed the children after the two-hour class, I felt that their expressions were clearly more dignified than before the class.

"I'm not good at speaking in front of people, but today's class made me think that I should raise my hand more in class."

"I was taught that society works on its own, so I want to practice speaking for that."

Why did Ms. Takeuchi start classes?

Mr. Takeuchi started his classes because he often saw Japan presidents while working as a banker and financial advisor between overseas investment funds and Japan companies.

For example, a world-famous investment fund interviews the president to select an investment destination.

The president of a company that Mr. Takeuchi was in charge of could only talk about the proposed answers to the questions he had prepared in advance, no matter what questions he was asked.

Furthermore, in contrast to "the CFO will explain the matter" and "Well, I will let the planning manager explain it to me,"

the president of the Taiwanese and Korean companies in the next room would get in alone and explain it with enthusiasm in his own words.

Asuka Takeuchi:
"The presentation of the Japan president lacks power and enthusiasm. I don't express my thoughts in "I". When I witness a competition with overseas companies, I find myself doing just like this.

And I asked him why he wasn't selected to be a fund executive when negotiations didn't come to a conclusion in an investment competition that everyone thought would work."

"Then, the executives said, 'I wanted to hear the president's own thoughts, and you can't trust someone who can respond with his own ideas instantly. Unfortunately, after watching the president's presentation this time, I decided that it was not possible. I was asked Japan, even though good products and services are being created.'"

He began to think that the decline of the Japan economy was due to the fact that business owners had not received education to acquire presentation skills since childhood.

I felt that the future of the Japan economy would be bleak if I did not gain experience to assert my ideas, so I made up my mind to establish an incorporated association in 2014.

While working in finance, he continued to send letters to elementary schools across the country, asking them to hold classes to improve children's speaking skills.

Initially, one out of every 100 messages was replied to to some extent.

As a result of our steady efforts, we are now inundated with requests from all over the country.

Expand your activities further

Is there anything more I can do to help people understand the importance of "presentation ability = speaking ability" in the school setting?

Mr. Takeuchi has also begun to approach the political and business circles and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Mr. Takeuchi recognizes that the current Course of Study also places emphasis on helping children acquire the ability to speak.

However, I understand that even if you try to devote class time to "speaking ability" that is not required for high school entrance exams, for example, it will be difficult due to pressure from parents.

For this reason, we hope that school teachers will first make children realize the importance of speaking skills, and then work on classes that improve their speaking skills.

Asuka Takeuchi:
"Morality textbooks say, 'Let's talk about our opinions.' In civics, for example, through elections, there are classes on how to reflect one's opinions in society. Vocalization is taught by a music teacher.

For each subject, the Course of Study and textbooks have content to foster speaking skills, but I want you to understand the current situation where there is a division between subjects and teachers."

"You can change the world with presentations,"

Takeuchi repeatedly said, and his desire to further improve the current educational environment in Japan.

Unlike the "presentation skills" and superficial techniques of business books that abound in the world, the focus was on giving children "confidence" and using their ability to live for the better.
