Xining, May 5 (ZXS) -- The Qinghai Provincial Administration Bureau of Qilian Mountain National Park announced on the 6th that on March 6 and April 2023, 3, the bureau and the scientific research team of Beijing Forestry University formed a working group to successfully track two snow leopards again in Qilian County and Menyuan County in the Qinghai area of Qilian Mountain National Park and released them in situ. The successful tracking of these two snow leopards marks the success of the field monitoring of the snow leopard satellite tracking project in Qilian Mountain National Park, and achieves the goal of tracking and monitoring different snow leopard individuals in the eastern, central and western sections of Qilian Mountain National Park.

Up to now, the two snow leopards have tracked 424 and 683 effective sites, respectively, and the preliminary calculation of the active area is 65 square kilometers and 114 square kilometers. According to the site analysis, it is inferred that the two snow leopards have reached more than 3 predation activities, indicating that the two snow leopards have normal and healthy activities.

As the flagship species in the alpine ecosystem of the Qilian Mountains, the snow leopard is also the "barometer" of the health of the alpine ecosystem. In recent years, the Qinghai Provincial Administration of Qilian Mountain National Park has comprehensively promoted the systematic monitoring and research of snow leopard species, carried out snow leopard field monitoring and investigation for five consecutive years, and orderly promoted the research of snow leopard population distribution, individual characteristics, and coexistence mechanism with the living environment.

Since 2021, after obtaining relevant administrative permits, two snow leopards "Qi Trace" and "Qi Miao" have been successfully tracked in Tianjun County, Qinghai Area of Qilian Mountain National Park. Together with the two snow leopards tracked this time, four snow leopards have been scientifically tracked in the Qinghai area of Qilian Mountain National Park. (End)
