This also includes this moment of shock. While the royal couple drove back to Buckingham Palace in the golden carriage, one of the horses in the procession ran backwards into the crowd. The rider tried to rein in the horse, but to no avail. The frightened animal broke through the barrier. But fortunately, the rider had his horse under control again after only a few seconds and none of the spectators were injured.

The excitement of coronation day: 52 arrests, Prince Harry leaves London in a hurry

Update from May 6, 18:35 p.m.: The historic day draws to a close, and the ceremony has not failed to have an effect. Afterwards, of course, the most important pictures and moments are discussed. The focus was not only on King Charles III, but also on his family environment. While Princess Kate's coronation outfit raised questions, her brother-in-law didn't exactly cover himself in glory: After the celebrations at Westminster Abbey, Prince Harry hastily disappeared from London again. He was not invited to the subsequent appointment – a balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace – according to a BBC insider.

Update from May 6, 17:20 p.m.: However, the day was overshadowed by dozens of arrests, some of which were carried out before the coronation, as independent.co.uk reported. London police confirmed a total of 52 arrests early Saturday night. It had already been announced in advance that they would not tolerate disturbances by demonstrators. In addition to environmental groups, the "Not My King" movement was particularly active. Its leader, Graham Smith, was arrested with five other members near Trafalgar Square, and hundreds of posters were confiscated, the activists announced via Twitter. "Is this democracy?" the tweet concluded.

The morning of Charles' coronation: preparations in full swing

Update from May 6, 10:53 a.m.: Prince Harry also remains in his underdog role. He is not to play a role in his father's coronation. Today, supposedly, not even pictures of Prince Harry are allowed to be taken.

Update from May 6, 10:47 a.m.: Now Prince Andrew is also on his way. The brother of King Charles III has just left Buckingham Palace and is now on his way to Westminster Abbey. He will attend the coronation ceremony today, but since he is no longer an active member of the royal families, it is still uncertain what role he actually plays today.

Update from May 6, 10:36 a.m.: Not even an hour, then it starts. To ensure that everything goes well on his big day, King Charles III has left nothing to chance. A cheat sheet could help the monarch at the coronation ceremony in case of emergency.

Update from May 6, 10:12 a.m.: Slowly, the royal family is also on its way. King Charles III and Queen Camilla are being driven to Buckingham Palace. From there it goes to Westminster Abbey at 10:20 local time.

Update from May 6, 09:47 a.m.: Just over an hour after the first demonstrators gathered, the first arrests were made. As reported by the BBC, the leader of the anti-monarchist group "Republic" was arrested, for which is still unclear. The group has now confirmed this via Twitter.

Update from May 6, 09:32 a.m.: At least as exciting as the coronation of King Charles III is the question of how Prince Harry will decide: Will he stay with his father in London after the coronation or will he fly right back to Meghan. Will there be time for conversations or will it be a quick number?

Because of Charles' coronation: London experiences historic police operation

Update from May 5, 19:00 p.m.: In the British capital, security measures are being taken these days that are likely to be unparalleled. London's police chief Mark Rowley (58) speaks of the "largest police operation" in the history of the metropolis, reports the BBC. In fact, Charles III and Camilla are said to be in constant danger – but the emergency services are doing their utmost to contain the risk.

On the roof of Buckingham Palace, sentries with state-of-the-art binoculars are positioned, while other officers show presence on the streets. In addition to uniformed security guards, plainclothes police officers will also patrol. In doing so, it is also relying on close cooperation with the British domestic intelligence service MI5. In the course of the ceremony, additional surveillance cameras were also installed along the route between the palace and Westminster Abbey.

Prince Harry already in London: reconciliation with Charles III before the coronation?

Update from May 5, 15:30 p.m.: As the Daily Mail reports, Prince Harry (38) is said to have arrived in the meantime – as expected, without his wife Meghan Markle (41) and their two children. On Friday morning, a private jet from Van Nuys, California, landed at a VIP airport near Windsor Castle. The district of the metropolis of Los Angeles is located in the immediate vicinity of the residence (Montecito) of the disgraced prince.

In addition, bild.de claims to have learned that Prince Harry is already at Buckingham Palace. Prince William's brother is said to have arrived there around 13:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, as a police officer in front of the royal residence confirmed. Charles III is also in his London office less than a day before the coronation. Behind the palace walls, therefore, there could be a clarifying conversation with his youngest son, perhaps even a reconciliation.

Surprise for Charles' coronation perfect: King and wife make a train announcement

Update from May 5, 13:54 p.m.: The surprise is perfect when the announcements are currently coming from King Charles III (74) and Queen Consort Camilla (75) themselves in London's trains. "My wife and I wish you and your families a wonderful coronation weekend," the king's voice sounds from the loudspeakers.

Followed by Camilla: "Wherever you travel, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip." Charles III concludes with the phrase "Please mind the gap", which is often heard in the London underground.

Anticipation of coronation rises: First guests landed, William and Kate in the pub

Update from May 5, 12:38 p.m.: While Japan's Crown Prince Fumihito (57) and Crown Princess Kiko (56) have already landed at Stansted Airport, Prince William (40) and Princess Kate (41) continue to attend appointments. They took the Elizabeth Line underground line to the London district of Soho, where they visited the "Dog and Ducks" pub. Prince William did not miss the opportunity to tap a beer behind the counter, after which William and Kate allowed themselves a sip. Pictures of the day of the coronation of King Charles III can be seen here.

Update from May 4, 22:40 p.m.: Discussions about the costs, however, dampen the mood of many Britons. The coronation of King Charles III devours several million pounds – money that comes to a not inconsiderable extent from the taxpayer's pocket. The situation arouses resentment: a counter-demonstration is even planned for the day of the coronation. However, one does not want to block any processes of the ceremony or strongly disrupt them, said a spokesman.

Update from May 4, 20:00 p.m.: About 2,000 guests are expected to attend the royal ceremony at Westminster Abbey. By way of comparison, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (†96) had received around 8000 guests. The guest list of those who will attend Charles' coronation is celebrity: In addition to members of other royal families, high-ranking politicians and personalities from the entertainment world are also invited.
