Each week, Le Figaro selects for you a list of cultural events not to be missed to spend a good weekend in Nice and the surrounding cities. For this new weekend of three days after those of Easter and Labor Day, we must expect mixed weather, with thunderstorms, even a little rain, Sunday and Monday. Saturday promises to be very sunny. Temperatures will fluctuate between 15 and 21 degrees.

Hanz Zimmer in concert at the Nikaya Palace

After the great success of his recent tour across Europe, Hans Zimmer continues his tour, especially in France. The 65-year-old German composer, known for having directed the music for films such as Interstellar, Inception, Gladiator, The Lion King or Pirates of the Caribbean, performs Saturday evening, at 20 pm, at the Palais Nikaïa, in Nice. An event not to be missed for film buffs and live music lovers.

Hans Zimmer has won two Oscars, three Golden Globes, four Grammy awards and many other prestigious awards. He recently composed the music for Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise, which was among the most successful films in theaters last year.

Return of the Play Azur Festival, the biggest pop culture event on the Côte d'Azur

After the success of previous editions, the Play Azur Festival returns on Saturday and Sunday at the Palais des Expositions in Nice. Supported by the City, the largest geek and pop culture fair on the Côte d'Azur will invest more than 14,000 m2 of space to offer 300 free animations. Six universes will be represented: Youtube/cinema, popular science, Asia, Comics/manga, video games, and Medieval Steampunk. Even Harry Potter fans won't be left out. And for good reason, the famous magical "choiceskin" will tell them which house of Hogwarts they belong to and they can then board the famous Ford Anglia (flying car) of the Weasley family.

The most beautiful cosplays (role-playing games between fictional characters with imitation of costumes) will also meet to participate in a contest. And on Sunday will be the regional qualification for the France cosplay cup. On the music side, K-Pop will be widely represented. Finally, e-athletes will be able to indulge their passion during several tournaments.

During these two days, 50 guests will be present during signing sessions, including actor Nicolas Gabion, YouTubers Sheshounet and Leo Techmaker and voice actors Dorothée Pousséo and Emmanuel Curtil. The Play Azur Festival is also a moment of exchange with many question and answer sessions organized with guests throughout the weekend.

The Rock Fest at the Théâtre de Verdure

The Rock Fest charity concerts are back for a 9th edition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 16 rock and metal bands will perform on the stage of the Théâtre de Verdure in Nice.

Each year, the Festival donates 100% of its profits to associations that help sick or disabled children to improve their daily lives. Since 2013, the year of the creation of the Festival, nearly 70,000 euros have been collected for the benefit of various associations.

The Festival of May at the garden of the Arena of Cimiez

Due to inclement weather, the traditional May Festival, which was supposed to take place on the first day of the month, has been moved to this Sunday. Thus, to celebrate spring, totally free animations are planned all day at the garden of the Arènes de Cimiez, in Nice.

From 11am, visitors will be able to attend the throwing of the "paillasou", a straw mannequin, participate in pebble making workshops, vibrate to traditional sounds or discover folk dances. A great opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of Nice. Several food stalls are also planned on site.

Tribute to Picasso, Vallauris

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Picasso's death (April 8, 1973), the town of Vallauris Golfe-Juan, where he lived from 1948 to 1955 and which had named him an honorary citizen, pays tribute to him throughout this weekend.

11am: inauguration of Pablo Picasso Beach, the beach on which the artist went, current Sun Beach, will be renamed in his name. The inauguration will be accompanied by the unveiling of specific signage in the name of the painter, and two emblematic photos.
