  • Ancestor Charles II, his many mistresses and his illegitimate children: this was the 'predecessor' of King Charles III

On April 30, the BBC premiered Charles R: The Making of a Monarch, a documentary built from home movies, some recorded by the same royal family, over seven decades. The program, which has already become popular in Great Britain, has the testimony of Charles III himself (74), who narrates the film and comments on various events of his childhood, his military service, his experience with his family and very important events. Among them, the coronation of his mother.

Charles III was born in November 1948 and, according to himself, the memories of his first three years are quite clear. "I have beautiful memories of my childhood. When I was little, both of my parents enjoyed recording things and we laughed a lot. I remember, above all, the laughter of my mother, who was very cheerful, "he says about the late monarch, whom he remembers as a tireless worker.

"Inevitably, my mother was always busy, abroad, on the tours she had to do and I remember trying to talk to her on the phone, when she was thousands of miles away," he explains. Still, Carlos did not have a lonely childhood. On the contrary, he was always accompanied by his grandmother. "I remember spending a lot of time with her at the Royal Lodge where there was a wonderful garden. I learned a lot from her. Things of immense value for my life," he says.

On the other hand, the king also talks about the day his mother became queen, June 2, 1953, and reveals the emotions he believes she felt. "I became heir at the age of four, when my mother became queen, because my grandfather died very young. And it must have been a shock for her to take the throne at a young age, when she expected to have the opportunity to do other things and raise her family," he says.

The Queen Mother, Prince Charles and Princess Margaret, on the day of the enthronement of Elizabeth II.

"I also remember the coronation. I remember taking a bath, when my mom was walking around with the crown. It was incredibly heavy. That's why she had to practice using it," she explains sweetly, then talks about the day the Archbishop of Canterbury put the Crown of St. Edward on her head and she took over the job she was born to do.

"I'll never forget my grandmother saying things to me like, 'Dear, try to remember this,'" he reveals with obvious nostalgia. Although it does not clarify whether he asked the Queen Mother about the relevance of the ceremony or why he should engrave it in his mind. Despite this, he does talk about the feeling of responsibility that was born in him... "I don't know when I became aware of who I was. It's just something that is born in you. Inexorably, the idea is born that you have a certain responsibility," he confesses.
