Taizhou, 5 May (Zhongxin Net) -- "We always gather less and leave more, just like the two sides of the strait. For example, on both sides of the river, because there is a reckless river flowing between us, we love that river so much, love it so much, that we even stand on the shore. A few days ago, on the occasion of the May Fourth Youth Day, dozens of college students from Yuhuan and Taiwan gathered under the Pu'an Lighthouse in Yuhuan City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, to recite the essay "Across the Straits" written by Taiwanese female writer Zhang Xiaofeng.

"I'm from Keelung, Taiwan, and I grew up by the sea, and I've heard of this place Yuhuan before." Lin Tingyi, a space design student at Taiwan's Daye University, said that seeing the sea of Yuhuan, he had an inexplicable sense of intimacy, just like returning to his own home.

The lighthouse symbolizes hope, and youth represents the future. The reporter learned that in the 2019 Dragon Boat Festival, Yuhuan successfully held the first cross-strait youth lighthouse recitation activity, where young people on both sides of the strait recited classic poems, experienced traditional folk customs, and the seeds of friendship took root and germinated. Since then, due to the impact of the epidemic and other factors, the event has been held online every year, and has received enthusiastic responses from young people on both sides of the strait. This year, the event resumed being held in-person and invited university students to participate for the first time.

Zhang Yunjia, a student at the Institute of Architecture of Daye University in Taiwan, said that as an architecture student, she found that the architecture of Yuhuan was quite different from that in Taiwan, and hoped to further understand the culture of Yuhuan through practical training and internship, and hoped to have more opportunities to come to the mainland for exchange and study in the future.

During the event, young people from both sides of the strait also wrapped tin cake cones, knocked fish noodles, and experienced the traditional folk customs of Yuhuan.

"It is an honor to participate in this exchange with Taiwanese university students, and we wander and exchange in literature as if crossing the strait." Shen Qi, a student at Taizhou Vocational and Technical College, said that he gained many Taiwanese friends of the same age, and everyone added contact information to meet next time.

According to reports, this activity was sponsored by the Yuhuan Cross-Strait Exchange and Cooperation Promotion Association, aiming to enhance cross-strait youth exchanges and exchanges through Chinese traditional culture with the same roots and origin.

In 2009, Damai Yuyu Port opened direct sea flights to Taiwan, becoming the only normalized direct passenger port in the Yangtze River Delta region to Taiwan, "With the help of this golden waterway, cross-strait exchanges are more frequent, in the future, Yuhuan will continue to hold this activity, expand the scale of exchanges, enrich the forms of exchanges, and accompany young people on both sides of the strait to grow together."
