The "2023 Beijing-Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Talent Development Summit" was recently held in Hong Kong. More than 300 representatives of science and technology enterprises, financial institutions, young scientists and outstanding science and technology innovation youth from Beijing and Hong Kong gathered together to carry out exchanges and negotiations, and jointly promote in-depth cooperation in science and technology innovation between the two places.
"Hong Kong and Beijing strengthen cooperation in science and technology and innovation, and there are sufficient conditions to create mutual benefit and win-win results, complement each other's advantages, and have unlimited development opportunities." In his video speech, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee said that the summit will help further promote the connection between Hong Kong and Beijing in terms of young scientific and technological talents, research and development projects, and transformation of scientific research achievements.
More active integration into the overall development of the country
In March this year, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the HKSAR Government signed the Mainland and Hong Kong Arrangement on Accelerating the Development of Hong Kong into an International I&T Centre in Beijing, covering deepening scientific research cooperation, sharing of innovation resources, transformation of achievements, personnel exchanges, leveraging Hong Kong's advantages in internationalization, and strengthening overall coordination. Mr Lee said that this marks a new chapter in scientific and technological cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong, reflecting the country's emphasis on and support for Hong Kong's development into an international innovation and technology hub.
"Hong Kong will be more active and proactive in integrating into the overall development of the country. Apart from the vigorous promotion of the HKSAR Government, all sectors of the community should also strive to build a platform for exchanges so that Hong Kong youth can have a better understanding of the opportunities brought by national development and innovation and technology, so as to inject impetus into Hong Kong's new leap. The "Beijing-Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Promotion Program" was launched at the end of last year, which is committed to promoting the R&D and transformation of scientific and technological innovation in Beijing and Hong Kong, and providing a broader and more dimensional cooperation platform for scientific and technological innovation elites of the two places. Create opportunities for young people in science and technology
"I&T is one of the most active and proactive areas for Hong Kong." The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, Sun Dong, said in his video speech that talent is crucial to the development of I&T, and the HKSAR Government will bring together talents from home and abroad through different channels, including the launch of the enhanced version of the Technology Talent Admission Scheme, the Outstanding Scientist Scheme and the well-received High-end Talent Pass Scheme, etc., to inject strong impetus into Hong Kong's innovation and technology development. In addition, the HKSAR Government is actively introducing leading enterprises or enterprises with development potential to Hong Kong, and through these enterprises, different types of talents are introduced to Hong Kong, so as to enhance Hong Kong's I&T talent resources.
Sun Dong believes that I&T cooperation between Hong Kong and Beijing is actively exploring and deepening, especially the "three cities and one district" - Zhongguancun Science City, Future Science City, Huairou Science City and Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone as important platforms, so as to promote I&T exchanges and coordinated development between the two places, and jointly make the I&T cause bigger and stronger.
"At present, Hong Kong and Beijing have common needs and challenges in scientific and technological innovation, university cooperation, talent training, industrial development, etc., and also have a wide range of cooperation space and cooperation prospects." The Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Young Scientists Forum with the theme of "Stimulating Innovation and Promoting the Coordinated Development of Beijing, Hong Kong and Macao" is one of the important activities of this summit.
