The Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, said that the Israeli authorities' permission to assassinate Sheikh Khader Adnan confirms that they are heading towards escalation against the Palestinians.
Barghouti added – in his speech to the episode (2023/5/2) of the program "Beyond the News" – that Israel carried out a heinous assassination of the martyr with the aim of breaking the will of resistance among prisoners and imposing administrative detention as a prevailing pattern, and oppression and abuse of Palestinians, warning of the danger that threatens the lives of Palestinian prisoners unless there is a full popular uprising to support them and support their right to freedom.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club said – on Tuesday morning – that the occupation authorities informed the prisoner movement of the martyrdom of the prisoner Khader Adnan after a hunger strike that lasted 87 days in refusal to arrest him.
The club said in a statement that "the occupation assassinated the prisoner Sheikh Khader Adnan premeditatedly."
According to Jamil al-Khatib, the lawyer of the martyr prisoner Khader Adnan, his client insisted on continuing his hunger strike until he obtained freedom or martyrdom.
Al-Khatib added that Khader Adnan was martyred because the jailers neglected his health condition, pointing out that the occupation court rejected the request to release him on bail.
Barghouti said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would escalate the atmosphere with the Palestinians to cover up the internal crisis he is facing and to appease the populists in his government.
He predicted that Israel under the current government – which he described as fascist – fierce attacks on the Gaza Strip, and perhaps enter into a very large confrontation with the Palestinians, stressing that the goal of this government is to Judaize and annex the West Bank instead of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's statements on the residents of the West Bank, where he said "either they leave or acquiesce or die," statements Netanyahu did not deny.
He said that the Palestinian resistance factions responded to the occupation in their joint statement, stressing that they are united in the resistance and in response to the crimes of the occupation, referring to the statement of the joint room of the resistance factions, in which they claimed responsibility for bombing the settlements surrounding Gaza with rocket barrages, considering this a preliminary response to the martyrdom of Sheikh Khader Adnan after his hunger strike to protest his arrest.
Security alert in Gaza
For his part, political analyst and researcher specialized in Israeli affairs Ihab Jabarin focused on the strategy of the Netanyahu government, saying that it is looking for escalation with the Palestinians, and that this government knew that the assassination of the prisoner Khader could lead to a security alert in the Gaza Strip, and therefore called for escalation through this assassination.
Jabarin said that the statements of some Likud members confirm that Israel believes that there are no arguments to prevent it from escalating after the Ramadan month.
He pointed out that Israel relies on a strategy based on trying to separate the Islamic Jihad and the Islamic Resistance (Hamas) by singling out one of them.
But the occupation, which is looking for escalation with the Palestinians, is trying to move away from the scenario of multiple confrontation fronts.
