US President Joe Biden on Monday hosted a reception at the White House to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, reiterating his administration's continued support for the Muslim community.

In his speech, published on the official website of the White House, Biden spoke about his knowledge of fasting during the month of Ramadan and the virtue of abstaining from food and drink for long hours and the mercy and compassion this instills in Muslims for the hungry and the poor.

At the ceremony, which was attended by hundreds of people, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden praised the contributions of American Muslims to the United States, including those who fought in the American War of Independence.

"Today, there are 3.5 million of you in the United States, and you are of different races, you speak different languages, but you are united as Americans," the president said in his speech.

Biden commented on the many contributions of Muslims to American society, whether in military and diplomatic service or cinema, food and clothing. "There are American Muslims serving in Congress today more than at any time in American history," he said.

"We are determined to confront all forms of hate, including Islamophobia, which is important to me and is a priority for my administration, which is why I have created an emergency task force to address attacks on Muslims, to combat prejudice and discrimination, and to stand up against hate," Biden said.

Congratulations in Arabic

Biden ended the event in Arabic by sending special congratulations in Arabic, saying "Eid Mubarak."

The ceremony witnessed the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran in the voice of Imam Makhdoom Zeya, and in the Palestinian keffiyeh, an Arab singer sang on the country of the beloved of the late Mohammed Abdel Wahab and played it on the oud.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of prominent Muslim figures in the American community, and they shared it through their personal accounts, including Congressman Ismail Mohammed, who shared his photos with Rep. Ilhan Omar and others with the audience and commented on them, "We were very honored to attend my second Eid al-Fitr ceremony at the White House, thank you to President Biden and Vice President Harris for raising the bar and empowering American Muslims."
