It has become a struggle over how the economy should go together for disabled associations in Stockholm. More and more non-profit associations are applying for grants from Region Stockholm, but the pot that is distributed is the same. This means that organizations that previously relied safely on the region's grants have received significantly less money.

"The economic situation is incredibly tough for all regions around the country. Our common will is to increase the grant pot, but I do not know when we can do it, says Karin Fälldin (C), chairman of the Committee for Public Health in Region Stockholm.

Organisation for wheelchair users needs to lay off staff

For RG Active Rehabilitation, which works to improve the quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries, the grant has been reduced from two million to SEK 930,000.

– This has meant that we have had to lay off two out of five instructors and reduce our activities, says Veronika Lyckow, operations manager RG Rehabilitation Aktiv.
