Hong Kong, April 4 (ZXS) -- The Hong Kong delegation won the 29 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions held recently. The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, Sun Dong, congratulated him on this and believed that the participation of the Hong Kong delegation was the best proof of Hong Kong's return to the world stage.

The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva is the world's largest exhibition of innovation. It is reported that the 2023 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions was held in Switzerland from April 4 to 26, and the exhibition included nearly 30,40 inventions from about 1000 countries and regions, and the number of inventors, universities, institutions and companies participating in the exhibition reached a record high.

Recently, Sun Dong led a Hong Kong delegation to Switzerland, consisting of about 500 members from universities, R&D centres, R&D laboratories, technology enterprises, government departments and secondary schools, and submitted a record-breaking total of 293 projects this year.

The Hong Kong delegation won the most Grand Prizes and Special Prizes in its history at the 2023 International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, as well as the Gold Medal of the Jury's Commendation, including 2 Grand Prizes, 8 Special Prizes and about 30 Gold Medals of Jury Commendation.

The research projects of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) won a total of 2023 awards at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 26, including 6 jury congratulations gold medals, 2 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 7 bronze awards. Ms Shum Mei-ha, Vice-President of CUHK, said that this outstanding invention is a testament to the cutting-edge research strength of CUHK, covering different fields such as medical robotics, drug discovery, nanotechnology, and artificial intelligence. CUHK will continue to support scholars in pursuing innovative research and applying their achievements to contribute to society.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) won 31 awards at the exhibition, including 3 Special Prizes, 5 Gold Awards of Jury's Commendation, 12 Gold Awards, 5 Silver Awards and 6 Bronze Awards, the most awards ever won by PolyU.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) won a total of 20 awards, including 1 Excellence Award for Invention and Innovation from the Chinese Delegation, 3 Gold Awards for Jury Commendation, 5 Gold Awards, 6 Silver Awards and 5 Bronze Awards. HKUST Vice-President (Research and Development) Cheng Kwong Ting said that HKUST's inventions and technologies have been widely recognized at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, which not only demonstrates HKUST's strong strength in cutting-edge technology research and development, but also demonstrates the entrepreneurial spirit of HKUST students, alumni and faculty. HKUST is committed to improving the readiness of R&D technology commercialization and will work with industry partners as early as possible to reduce barriers and shorten the technology transfer process.

Sun Dong congratulated him, saying in his speech at a cocktail reception hosted by the SAR Government that the participation of the Hong Kong delegation is the best proof of Hong Kong's return to the world stage. He introduced the latest development of I&T in Hong Kong to nearly 500 guests, saying that improving the I&T ecosystem and promoting the mutual development of upstream, midstream and downstream are important directions to promote I&T development.

He added that the current HKSAR Government is making every effort to promote industrial development, especially those of strategic and strategic significance, and stressed that after months of hard work, the HKSAR Government has made good progress in attracting domestic and overseas technology enterprises to set up or expand their businesses in Hong Kong.
