The United States was unable to isolate the Russian delegation at the events of the UN Security Council (SC) in New York, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told RT.

"I could not find a place in the hall where the press conference was held, because Sergei Viktorovich (Lavrov. - RT), that all the seats were occupied. All the seats were occupied, and, of course, there can be no question of any isolation of the Russian minister or our delegation," Antonov stressed.

According to him, media representatives asked Lavrov "a huge number of questions."

"It seems to me that if Sergei Viktorovich continued the press conference ... It would have lasted another two days. And the questions are very, very diverse. And it would be untrue to say that the main attention (was given. — RT) the Ukrainian crisis. Nothing of the kind. Our minister was bombarded with questions about the multipolar world, about the international situation," the diplomat said.

At the same time, Western permanent representatives behaved in relation to the Russian foreign minister "tactlessly and even indecently," Antonov noted.

"They did not address our minister as the chairman of the Security Council, but tried to go straight to the heart of the matter, avoiding normal diplomatic words," Antonov explained.

However, as the diplomat emphasized, even in such a situation, the events under the chairmanship of Russia in the UN Security Council were "brilliant, successful, successful and, most importantly, productive."

Recall that in April, Russia acts as chairman of the UN Security Council. This week, Lavrov visited the headquarters of the world organization in New York and took part in meetings of the UN Security Council. However, the minister was not accompanied by a pool of journalists on this trip: at first, the United States, without explaining the delay, did not issue visas to them, and only after the delegation's plane had already taken off, the US embassy announced their readiness. Moscow called this behavior of the American side "dishonest" and promised to take this incident into account when interacting with the United States.

Anti-Russian idea

Recall that after the start of the NWO in Kyiv, and then in the European Union, they began to come up with a proposal to deprive Russia of the status of a member of the UN Security Council. So, in December 2022, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, proposed creating a mechanism for suspending Russia's membership in the UN Security Council, although he recognized the implementation of such an initiative at this stage as impossible, since, according to him, this would lead the very concept of security of the world organization to a dead end.

The absence of legal ways to deprive the Russian side of permanent membership in the UN Security Council was stated at the end of March this year by White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. She expressed regret that the Russian Federation is a permanent member of the Security Council, but at the same time noted that "there are no possible international legal ways to change this state of affairs."

At the same time, despite Russia's absolutely legitimate and legitimate presence in the UN Security Council, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, made a joke in early April, linking the beginning of Russia's presidency in the Security Council with April Fool's Day.

"Today's transition of the presidency of the UN Security Council to Russia is suitable for April Fool's Day. Although Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, it constantly violates the very essence of the UN legal framework. The EU will oppose any abuse of Russia's presidency," Borrell wrote on Twitter.

In turn, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the world organization, Vasily Nebenzya, during a press conference on April 3, stressed that Russia occupies a place in the UN Security Council absolutely legitimately.

It is worth noting that during an open debate at the UN headquarters on April 24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on countries to preserve the status of the world organization "as a hard-won example of multilateralism and coordination of world politics."

"The key to success is joint work, the rejection of claims to anyone's exclusivity and, I repeat once again, respect for the sovereign equality of states," Lavrov stressed.

However, Russia's desire for equality of states and the rejection of exclusivity does not suit everyone. For example, after Lavrov's speech, Poland's permanent representative to the UN, Krzysztof Szczerski, in an interview with Polskie Radio, complained that at the moment it is impossible to deprive Russia of membership in the UN Security Council.

"To change this, it is necessary to change the UN Charter, and for this you need unanimity ... Today, there is no majority to deprive Russia of its seat in the UN. I personally believe that it would be necessary to condemn the imperialism of Russia and change the world order," Shchersky said.

"It will not be possible to isolate Russia"

As Yevgeny Semibratov, deputy director of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, noted in an interview with RT, the situation around the UN Security Council events in New York proves that Russia successfully repels attempts by Western countries to isolate it from the international community.

"There is a fairly powerful demand in the world for clarification of the Russian point of view. Rapidly developing countries, including the states of Asia and Africa, want to establish contacts with the Russian authorities, to hear Moscow's position on topical issues on the global agenda, "the expert said in an interview with RT.

And this is extremely feared in the West, Semibratov noted. According to him, for this reason, the United States did not want to issue visas to Russian journalists who were supposed to go to New York with the Russian Foreign Minister and the rest of the delegation.

"After all, if media representatives from the Russian Federation were fully present at Sergey Lavrov's speeches at the UN, then the coverage of this newsbreak both in our information space and abroad would be much greater. And this is unprofitable for the United States, which, together with its allies, seeks to isolate Russia, "the analyst explained.

At the same time, Krzysztof Szczerski in his statement clearly hints at Warsaw's desire to return the "notorious unipolar world," Semibratov believes.

"In this situation, the Polish side played the role of Washington's right hand. Therefore, Poland and the United States will continue to promote the idea of depriving Russia of the status of a permanent member of the Security Council, this topic will be constantly exaggerated by them. But this will remain only an attempt at information pressure on the Russian Federation, since the exclusion of the Russian side from the permanent members of the Security Council will lead to the fact that within a very short time the UN as an organization may simply collapse. The hopes of the West are unrealistic: the world is already multipolar, it will not be possible to isolate Russia, "the analyst is sure.

A similar point of view is shared by RISS expert Sergey Ermakov. According to him, even now the attempts of the West, led by the United States, to limit Russia in the political arena are "failing."

"The situation around the non-admission of Russian journalists to the events of the UN Security Council in New York caused a public outcry and only drew attention to the Russian Federation and its position. Many people in the world are interested in how Moscow positions itself in the international arena. All this once again confirms that attempts to isolate Russia are simply doomed to failure, "Yermakov said in a conversation with RT.

According to the expert, no matter how much the United States and its allies want to turn the UN Security Council into an instrument to confront Russia by excluding it, they will not succeed, since the Charter of the world organization does not imply this.

"However, in addition to the topic of excluding the Russian Federation from the UN Security Council, Washington and the West are now actively talking about how they could reform this platform in order to gain full control over the world organization. However, Russian diplomacy closely follows all discussions of this kind and guards Russian and international interests. Moscow has allies, including China, who will not allow the UN to be turned into a new propaganda mechanism of the West," the expert concluded.
