The beach at Framnäsbadet has been a popular place for uninvited birds that leave droppings behind. In the past, the City of Västerås has used game wardens to curb the problem. With the green laser, it should be both more effective and more humane, as long as you do not shine them in the eyes.

Perceives the laser as a threat

With a sweeping gesture on the ground in front of the birds, the green laser scares them and they flee quickly. Martin Bergåker, representative of the company that offers this solution, says that they have seen that some bird species can stay away for a longer period, sometimes as long as five weeks. But there are also some species it doesn't work on at all.

"We have noticed that white-cheeked geese are not affected by the laser," says Martin Bergåker.

After the summer, the City of Västerås will evaluate the work with the green laser and if it turns out well, the technology may be used at several other bathing places in the city.
