The Russian Embassy in the UK said that the supply of shells with a depleted uranium core to Ukraine indicates London's readiness to turn the territory of this country into a radioactive burial ground.

"Now it is finally clear that this country is destined by the West for the role of not only an anti-Russian military training ground, but also a radioactive burial ground - with all the ensuing dire consequences for the health of local residents and the environment in the region," the diplomatic mission said in a statement.

Thus, the embassy commented on the statements of British Deputy Secretary of Defense James Heappey, who confirmed the shipment of depleted uranium ammunition intended for Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine.

The embassy noted that the British official "cynically stated that London does not track the use of these weapons."

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine are fully responsible for this, they say, and (London) has no obligations to eliminate the consequences of their use at the end of the conflict," the diplomatic mission said. According to Russian diplomats, London's recent statements demonstrate a line towards the escalation of the "proxy conflict" unleashed by them in Ukraine.

As noted in the embassy, the British Ministry of Defense, apparently, does not realize how hypocritical their assurances of London's intentions to "lay the foundations" for the successful post-conflict reconstruction of Ukraine sound.

"We urge the British authorities not to indulge themselves with illusory hopes, as if, by transferring the arrows to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which now have toxic ammunition at their disposal, they will be able to get away with it," the diplomatic mission summed up.

Vice-speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Konstantin Kosachev, in an interview with RT, said that the West does not care what will happen in Ukraine. In his opinion, if it comes to "the use of depleted uranium ammunition, especially some types of weapons of mass destruction, the interests of Ukraine in this situation, its population, its territories will be taken into account by the West in the last, and not in the first place."

"Therefore, I agree with those assessments that interpret this situation as the prospect of turning the territory of Ukraine into a test site with nuclear waste, if and when the West decides to do so," the RT interlocutor concluded.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also spoke about the risks associated with the use of depleted uranium ammunition. Answering journalists' questions following his visit to the United States as part of Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council, he mentioned the consequences of using such materials.

"Whoever says that it is not radioactive and is not included in the relevant IAEA lists, there are not lists, but facts and interviews with people who suffered from depleted uranium in the same former Yugoslavia," Lavrov said, answering a question from journalists about the statements of the British Deputy Minister of Defense.

According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in such situations "you need to be aware of your responsibility."

"Great Britain what? They are there - on the island, so maybe it is not so important where this depleted uranium will emit or not emit what it contains, "the minister concluded.

Recall that in March, Deputy Defense Minister Annabelle Goldie announced her intention to supply Kyiv with depleted uranium ammunition. She noted that such shells very effectively cope with the defeat of modern tanks and armored vehicles.

The Russian Ministry of Defense soon announced that the use of depleted uranium ammunition by the military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would cause irreparable harm to their health. As the head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Igor Kirillov, explained, Western countries are aware of the consequences of the use of these munitions, but declare their readiness to supply them.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the use of depleted uranium shells will lead to contamination of significant acreage in Ukraine, which, in turn, will cause huge economic damage to the country's agro-industrial complex.
