Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani condemned US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's position on the United States' commitment to disrupt Iran's military program, saying that "his provocative positions are aimed solely at continuing to market American weapons."

The Iranian spokesman considered that Blinken's statements aim to fuel the conflict, by following a policy of intimidation of Iran and stirring up strife among the countries of the region.

He added that the Iranian military program is a defensive program for deterrence only, and is not directed at any country that does not intend to target Iran, calling on Washington to abandon what he called its wrong policy, and stop interfering in the affairs of the countries of the region.

Iran emphasizes a policy of good neighbourliness, dialogue between the countries of the region and co-operation to achieve security and stability without interference by foreign countries, Kanaani said, noting that "positive and advanced developments in the region are moving in the same direction".

Destabilization

On Friday, Blinken said in a tweet after Washington imposed sanctions on companies accused of supporting Iran's military and drone programs, "We are deeply committed to disrupting Iran's military procurement activities."

"We are working to identify entities from Iran and the People's Republic of China that are involved in such destabilizing behavior," Blinken said, stressing that Washington would continue to work with its allies and partners to counter such activities.

The United States last week imposed new sanctions on a procurement network it accused of supporting Iran's military and drone programs.

The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement that the sanctioned network had purchased technology for the Iranian government, its defense industry and the drone program.
