Emmanuel Macron's popularity rating continues to fall, according to an Ifop poll for the Journal du Dimanche, weighed down by his highly contested pension reform. Only 26% of French people are satisfied with Emmanuel Macron. It is in this context and on the eve of the anniversary of the first anniversary of his re-election that the French president responded to readers of Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France.

A bitter birthday. A year after his re-election, Emmanuel Macron's popularity has plummeted: minus 15 points compared to April 2022. According to an Ifop poll for the Journal du dimanche, published on April 23, nearly three-quarters of French people say they are dissatisfied with the president. This is the third consecutive month of decline and, this time, 47% are very unhappy. An anger accentuated by the episode of the pension reform.

But all is not lost to re-establish dialogue with the French, according to Roland Lescure, Minister for Industry: "He will make small debates. He is on the ground, he exchanges with people. Once the pots go out, there are people who agree and people who disagree, who are willing to talk to him. I think he will continue to do so both to convince, but above all to project us into the future. »

Emmanuel Macron is approaching the records of unpopularity he had reached in November and December 2018, at the height of the crisis of the "yellow vests". It evolved at 23% of positive opinions. To try to turn the page on the pension reform, he has multiplied this week the visits on the ground. But pot concerts follow the head of state wherever he goes. After the promulgation of the pension reform, Emmanuel Macron has set a milestone of 100 days to appease the country, with the horizon of July 14.

Emmanuel Macron wants to "re-engage in the public debate"

It is in this context that the French president granted a long exchange with eleven readers of Le Parisien, carried out Friday, April 21 at the Élysée, and put online this Sunday evening by the daily. The head of state responded on all themes, from the balance sheet of the executive to future projects, including the possibility of seeing Marine Le Pen succeed him in 2027.

Emmanuel Macron acknowledged that he should have "wet" himself more to defend the disputed pension reform and announced that he would now "re-engage in the public debate". "Perhaps the mistake was not to be present enough to give constancy and carry this reform myself," said the President of the Republic, who affirms, however, that his Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, has his "confidence" because "she is doing her job well in a difficult moment for the country."

While Emmanuel Macron continues his offensive to turn the page on the pension reform crisis, each of his trips is disrupted by opponents of the reform. The parades under the banner of the unions are replaced by more spontaneous, but almost daily, operations, including concerts of pots and pans. And demonstrators do not fail to shout "Macron resign" as he passes.

«Le Pen will arrive if we install a habit of denial of reality»

Does he imagine being accompanied by Marine Le Pen on the steps of the Élysée in 2027?, asks a reader of the Parisian.

«

Marine Le Pen will come to power if we do not know how to respond to the country's challenges and if we install a habit of lying or denying reality, "says Emmanuel Macron. "If we manage to win the site of reindustrialization, we will get people out of despair, misery and anger. If we manage to win the site of ecology, order, the fight for our public services, we will have people who will return to the republican field, "he hopes.

'One text' on immigration

At the end of March, during an interview on TF1 and France 2, Emmanuel Macron had indicated that several texts would be presented on immigration.

«

I want an effective and fair law, in a single text that balances this balance, "said the president in response to a question from a reader on the Immigration bill. "The prime minister is looking with the different parties, I don't know what the path will be. We need to build a political majority," he said.
