The number of snowmobiles in Storuman has increased by 635 in the last twelve years, while the number of Storuman residents has decreased by 373, according to statistics from Statistics Sweden.
The municipality has clearly the most scooters per person in Västerbotten County – and after Arjeplog the second most per person in the whole country.
A Storuman resident who drives a snowmobile both in his spare time and on a daily basis is the principal Emilie Kristiansson at Stensele School. In the winter, she commutes to work on a snowmobile.
"It's a way to get out and if you look around here, it's skis and snowmobiles. But then they are also used in different professions here," she says.
