Workers at the aviation security, passenger, personnel and cargo control at Berlin Brandenburg Airport have been called on by the Verdi trade union to strike, starting Monday until midnight the following day. According to the airport, this means that no passenger planes will be able to take off all day, according to the dpa news agency.

The strike in the capital is being called in an attempt to pressure employers to raise wages, according to Deusche Welle. It follows other strikes that reportedly paralysed Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn airports on Thursday and led to the cancellation of around 700 flights.

In addition to the airport strikes, the German rail and transport union EVG organized a nationwide transport strike on Friday. According to the newspaper, it affects about 50 companies, including the national railway operator Deutsche Bahn.
