The footage surprised many netizens. In the minutes following his speech on Monday, April 17, Emmanuel Macron was filmed in the streets of Paris singing a Pyrenean song with a group of several people. The head of state had already taken up this song during a trip to the Hautes-Pyrénées last July.

This Monday, April 17, following his speech, Emmanuel Macron walked through the streets of Paris with his wife. Strongly criticized by many French, the President of the Republic could have been arrested by a group of disgruntled demonstrators, but he was accosted by young people who asked him to sing, with them, a Pyrenean song: "The Refuge".

According to a journalist from Valeurs actuelles, the singers who accompanied Emmanuel Macron were the choristers of the Saint-Longin choir. The head of state accepted their proposal and he pushed the song in the streets of the capital.

A great classic of traditional songs

This song by Edmond Duplan is known as a classic of traditional songs from southern France. "How good it is to fall asleep, at the refuge in the evening, near the fire that goes out, in the land of isards, your heart is my refuge and your eyes are for me," says the chorus of the song.

Emmanuel Macron had already sung this song during a trip to Argelès-Gazost, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, last July, when he went to meet sheep breeders. The President of the Republic is very attached to the Hautes-Pyrénées region where his grandmother lived, in the commune of Bagnères-de-Bigorre. Many Internet users have long believed that this video was a fake, but the Elysee confirmed to Europe 1, this Tuesday afternoon, that the video was authentic.
