"The final statement of the consultative meeting in Jeddah calls for the unity of Syria and its return to the Arab fold," diplomats said following the meeting.
In addition, the Arab countries called for "preserving the sovereignty of Syria by ending the presence of groups."
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the authorities of Syria and Egypt began preliminary negotiations on the full restoration of diplomatic relations after a break of more than ten years.
Reuters also reported that Saudi Arabia plans to invite Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the Arab League summit in May.
