• Femicide The death of a woman burned with gasoline in a square by her ex-boyfriend shakes Peru

The Colombian Government reported the arrest in Colombia of Venezuelan citizen Sergio Tarache Parra, 21, who was denounced for burning alive his former partner in downtown Lima and for which Peru requested his extradition.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is allowed to inform that Mr. Sergio Tarache Parra, of Venezuelan nationality, was arrested in Colombian territory on April 12, 2023, based on an Interpol red notice, at the request of the Republic of Peru," the Colombian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement.

Colombia has already informed Peru of this detention and both countries are working "to find the most agile procedure that allows the prompt surrender of Mr. Tarache Parra to the Peruvian authorities, in compliance with the internal and international norms applicable to the case."

Tarache is accused of femicide, after that, as recorded in images of the security cameras of the center of Lima on March 18, he argued with Katherine Gómez, 19, in the Plaza Dos de Mayo, and then sprayed her body with gasoline and set it on fire.

The young woman burning in flames was helped by passers-by, but that attack caused burns in 60% of her body and died after a week hospitalized in Lima.

Being seriously injured, the girl identified her aggressor, while the man ran from the scene and later the National Police offered 50,000 soles (about $ 13,300) for his location.
