• Generalitat 50 minutes of "police" and "very aggressive" interrogation of the Andalusian nurse, only in Catalan and with an envoy by the Government
  • Editorial Nationalism crosses the line with the Andalusian nurse

Vox, Citizens and the PP have requested the appearance in the Parliament of the Minister of Health of the Generalitat, Manel Balcells, for the interrogation of the Andalusian nurse who published a video on social networks criticizing the requirement to prove the level of sufficiency of Catalan (C1) to oppose a public employee position.

As revealed today by EL MUNDO, Begoña Suárez had to be assisted by her lawyer to understand the questions entirely in Catalan that the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) transferred to her on March 28, the day she was summoned to testify in the framework of the investigation that the Government ordered to open after the dissemination of the video. Sources from the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, a center where the Cadiz health worker worked until March 31, when her contract expired, assured this newspaper that the interrogation of the head of the Generalitat had "a police tone and very aggressive" both with Suárez and with the other three professionals who appeared in the video.

Vox has announced that it has registered the request for the appearance of Balcells and the direction of both the ICS and Vall d'Hebron for "the 50-minute interrogation suffered by the nurse". The deputy María García Fuster has pointed out that "beyond the terms in which she manifested, it is indecent that they open a 'reserved investigation' to a health professional for the simple fact of rebelling against the linguistic imposition in Catalonia".

For his part, the president of the parliamentary group of Citizens, Carlos Carrizosa, has assured this noon that they will demand that the counselor explain if the facts related by this newspaper are true and that, if confirmed, they will demand his resignation.

In statements to the media in front of the headquarters of the Department of Health, Carrizosa has described this episode as "typical of the Gestapo" and an "inquisitorial" regime. "What has happened to this nurse is very serious because it has led to her civil death in Catalonia, where she can no longer work or circulate on the street," he added.

Ciudadanos, on the other hand, will also denounce in the European Commission what it considers "a violation of fundamental rights", as announced by MEP Jordi Cañas. "Catalan separatism is a threat to democracy and rights and freedoms. This abuse of totalitarian power will not remain so, "he promised, at the same time that he has advanced that he will ask the second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, about this issue during the second half of this year, in which Spain will occupy the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

These are not the only movements in the last hours as a result of the information published by EL MUNDO, since, as this newspaper has been able to know, the constitutionalist entity Impulso Ciudadano has filed a complaint about it with the Ombudsman.

Criticism of the PSOE

At the national level, PP and Vox have also shown their rejection about information that, in their opinion, corroborates that the Catalan Executive, with the socialist protection, "governs with hatred" and anticipate that they will ascend to Brussels their denunciation of these "embarrassing" facts.

"The concern of the Generalitat should be the high rate of waiting lists and not how their health professionals speak," says the spokesperson of the Popular Party in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, who says she expresses solidarity with the "persecution" suffered by Begoña Suárez only "for complaining on social networks about the need to accredit the C1 level of Catalan to oppose".

A discrimination, they believe in the popular ranks, which is carried out with the approval of both the PSOE and the Government of Pedro Sánchez. For this reason, Montserrat asks the Socialists "to join this defense of the coexistence of languages" and not to yield in the Congress of Deputies or in Catalonia to Esquerra Republicana, "which selects good or bad Catalans according to the language in which they speak". "If today Castilian is cornered in Catalonia it is also thanks to the socialist permissiveness," laments the PP spokeswoman in Brussels.

Vox has also charged from its national leadership against the facts revealed on Wednesday by EL MUNDO: "We must ask for criminal responsibilities from these miserable and remove them from any public function. Zero tolerance for separatist totalitarianism," said Santiago Abascal.

Ciudadanos already took this matter to Congress a week ago. Its parliamentary spokeswoman, Inés Arrimadas, registered a battery of questions addressed to the Executive to explain its position on "the pointing out and ideological dismissal by the Generalitat to a public health nurse for her opinions".

Also, in an informative meeting held on Wednesday, the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has complained about the "intolerance and lack of respect" towards this autonomous community that demonstrate the "mockery" of the Virgen del Rocía in a recent gag of the program Està passant of TV3 and the "almost hostile and aggressive persecution" in the case of the nurse from Cádiz. The regional leader of the PP has said that "it misses" a government that acts with "leadership" to defend "the territories and singularities" that exist in Spain.

The president of Valents and candidate for Mayor of Barcelona, Eva Parera, also referred today to the case of Begoña Suárez: "The Generalitat, together with the City Council led by Ada Colau and the PSC, has intensified its persecution of Spanish and those who use it in posters, restaurant menus or in the Public Administration.
