The Russian Foreign Ministry assured that the Russian Embassy in Minsk closely monitors the fate of Sapieha, contacts her relatives and lawyers and periodically visits the convict at the place of serving her sentence.

"Another similar visit of a consular officer to a correctional colony in the Gomel region was agreed by the Belarusian authorities," the RIA Novosti department said.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Minsk, Alexei Maskalev, said that Russian diplomats are working on the case of Sofia Sapieha and are waiting for a meeting with her.

In late January, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow will continue to closely monitor the observance of the rights of Sapieha, convicted in Belarus.
