"We must urgently reconsider our attitude to the health of our children and youth," she explained.

The senator stressed that electronic cigarettes increase the risks of developing cancer, worsen the functioning of the thyroid gland, lead to disorders of the central nervous system, depression, delayed mental and physical development.

Earlier, the State Duma adopted a law banning the sale of vapes to minors.

The document proposes to ban retail trade in "devices for the consumption of nicotine-containing products" and their components at fairs and exhibitions, remotely and through vending machines, as well as "through distribution and peddling trade."

It is also proposed to prohibit the release and circulation of nicotine-containing products with flavors and additives "in order to reduce the attractiveness of these products for minors", open display and demonstration of devices in stores.
