– We need more families to open up their homes to provide support, care and love to the children who are in vulnerability, says Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD).

He emphasizes that there is currently a shortage of places in family homes for vulnerable young people.

In the spring amending budget, the Government proposes that an additional EUR 100 million be allocated in 2023 to strengthen the state subsidy for municipal foster care placements. Of the 100 million, 50 million is "new money", according to Forssmed.

Information campaign

– They can go to the actual placement of children, but also to development efforts in the municipalities to be able to assess more family homes, but also to provide support to existing family homes, says the Minister of Social Affairs.

In order to develop more family homes in the longer term, the government has commissioned the National Board of Health and Welfare to carry out an information campaign to the public about, among other things, family homes and emergency homes.

In the clip, Niina Stenander, chairman of the interest association Faco, talks about the lack of family homes.
