China undermines "peace and stability" accused Taiwan on Monday as Beijing completes its military maneuvers of encirclement of the island it ardently claims. Taipei has also detected 12 warships and 91 aircraft around its territory.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry on Monday accused China of undermining "peace and stability" in the region, after Beijing ended military maneuvers around the autonomous island. China "deliberately uses military exercises to undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait," the ministry said, adding that Taipei will maintain close ties with the United States "to jointly deter authoritarian expansion."

On the last day of the maneuvers on Monday, Taiwan detected 12 warships and 91 aircraft around the island on Monday, the Defense Ministry said. "While the Eastern Theater Command (of the Chinese military) has announced the end of its exercise, the military will never relax its efforts to strengthen its combat readiness," Taiwan's defense ministry said in a statement, adding that the Chinese planes and warships were detected at 18 p.m. Taipei time on Monday.
