The Municipal Police of Madrid was able to free this past Saturday afternoon in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas a 43-year-old Honduran woman, who had been allegedly locked up by her husband at home for three months and who had also been raped, according to the first investigations.

The agents arrested her husband, a 45-year-old Honduran, accused of an alleged crime of sexual assault, illegal detention and alleged abuse in the family. In addition, the man threatened his partner with reporting her to the authorities if she left the house, since she was in an irregular situation in Spain.

The intervention of the Municipal Police occurred last Saturday afternoon at number 13 of Puerto Canfranc Street, in the neighborhood of Nueva Numancia in the district of Puente de Vallecas.

The agents received an alert from a woman of foreign nationality who was screaming for help, according to several neighbors. The police went to the house where the events occurred and were able to reach the door of the house, where the woman allegedly begged for help.

Upon entering the interior of the house to check if any criminal act had occurred, the woman collapsed and recounted her captivity. He told municipal police officials that he had not been able to leave the house or have a relationship with people outside for about three months. He added that his partner coerced him to report that he was in an irregular situation if he left the house.

In addition, the woman, who has other relatives in Madrid, said she had been forced to have sex with her partner. "He has forced me, he has forced me," the victim reiterated while the man denied the facts and assured that everything was false.

The man was arrested by the Municipal Police and transferred to the police station where it is also investigated if he had also assaulted and mistreated his partner.

The woman was attended by specialized agents of the team of the Support and Protection Unit for Women, Minors and the Elderly.

The Municipal Police of Madrid currently has about 6,700 open files in Madrid for cases of sexist violence. In addition, it has more and more cases assigned (about 2,300 in 2022, 19% more than in 2019), while the rest correspond to the National Police.

Last May, the Municipal Police opened an office in the Courts of Violence against Women to provide these victims with greater protection in court, attending since then more than 1,200 judicial requirements.
