Virginie Girod SEASON 2022 - 202305h01, April 04, 2023

Virginie Girod transports you to the heart of the history of one of the most important women of ancient Egypt: Nefertiti, the "queen-goddess". Great royal wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten, Nefertiti is today known for one of her busts, which represents her beauty. But finally, what do we know about this queen? Recognizable by his bust sculpted by Thutmose and currently exhibited at the Neues Museum in Berlin, Nefertiti revolutionized his time and pulled the strings of power in an Egypt at the height of its power. Her story is inseparable from that of her husband Akhenaten. Between them, they carried out multiple cultural and religious reforms that changed the history of ancient Egypt. This royal couple created a new capital and established a monotheism, that is: the belief in one God. Nefertiti is said to have influenced her husband's decision to abandon the worship of the gods of Egypt in favor of a monotheism centered on Aten, the deity of the solar disk. Discover the story of the "queen-goddess" Nefertiti told by Virginie Girod. At the time, ancient Egypt differed by its religion: polytheism. The Egyptians are very keen to worship several gods. Akhenaten's religious revolution to impose monotheism came as the clergy began to doubt the legitimacy of the pharaoh's rule. A difficult decision for Egyptians to accept.
