[Contemporaneous] Ma Ying-jeou

Do you understand my Hunan dialect?

On April 4, Ma Ying-jeou, who returned to his hometown to worship his ancestors, led 2 Taiwanese students to Hunan University for an exchange forum, and when answering a question from Li Ziyi, a student of Hunan, Ma Ying-jeou happily answered in Hunan dialect.

[Contemporaneous] Ma Ying-jeou

(I am) Xiangtan came back to Hunan and met with everyone, I feel very happy, do you think the Hunan dialect I speak is okay? (Yes, yes, yes.) )

【Commentary】Ma Yingjeou quoted the allusion of "The Widow to the Country" in "Mencius Liang Hui Wang Shang", "The number of pops cannot enter the pond, and the fish and turtles cannot be eaten", to tell the students the enlightening significance of the concept of ecological protection in traditional Chinese culture to modern society, and encourage students on both sides of the strait to jointly carry forward and inherit the excellent traditional Chinese culture and promote exchanges, hoping to "make the exchange between students from Hu University and Taiwan students become commonplace".

I said to him in the Xiangtan dialect: "Hello Mr. Ma, welcome back." This sentence also made him and other Taiwanese teachers and students feel very cordial, and then (he) responded to me in Xiangtan dialect, making me feel that Taiwanese friends really have a sense of identity with our common cultural genes, and I am very much looking forward to more and more opportunities to sit with Taiwanese friends and (communicate) like today.

【Commentary】During the discussion, Taiwan students were most concerned about the environment and policies for studying entrepreneurship in the mainland, as well as the teaching system of mainland universities, and other issues. Taiwanese student Zheng Yaling shared her experience of studying at Huda, how to integrate into the mainland, make friends, and appreciate the great rivers and mountains of the motherland.

Wang Hongyi, a doctoral student at Hu University, said that both sides of the strait are one family, and sincerely hope that more young friends from Taiwan can come to the mainland to work, live, study and realize themselves, and also hope that there will be more opportunities for exchanges and cooperation with them. ”

In today's exchange, we discussed some common issues and reflections at present, and I am also very happy to see some of the beautiful qualities shared by the new generation of young people on both sides of the strait, self-confidence, composure and willingness to embrace the unknown and challenges.
