  • Disappearance Juana's Odyssey: a year looking for her son among drug towns and underworld of Hortaleza

It is a quarter to 10 at night and a 14-year-old boy walks down the street of Puerto de Maspalomas in the direction of the mouth of the Barrio del Pilar metro in Madrid after separating from his friends, with whom he had been spending the afternoon.

Then, the boy (identified as Bernardo to preserve his identity) met a group of young people "composed of between 15 and 20 people," according to the complaint to the National Police to which GRAN MADRID has had access, "who were listening to music and recording videos, wearing black balaclavas."

When the group noticed Bernardo's presence, they approached him "requesting that he give them the mobile phone he was carrying." Bernardo refused to comply with the group's demands, saying that "it was his phone and that he was not going to give it to him."

It was at this moment that the group responded violently "throwing him to the ground and starting to kick and punch him," the complaint states. The demolition of the teenager caused that "the aggressors continue to kick him, and several of the members of the group snatch the shoes he was wearing at that time, these being imitation white shoes of the Jordan brand, with a red logo. "

"After about 40 seconds of blows, one of the aggressors tells [Bernardo] 'now either you give me the phone or I slit you', exhibiting at that same moment a knife that he carried in his waist, being the butterfly knife when having to fold down the edge of the handle," continues the police report.

A knife on which the victim recalls that "it was large, about 30 centimeters, approximately, with a brown handle pulling dark."

According to the testimony that the victim shared with the police, the aggressors were between 14 and 20 years old and knew some of them by sight, although they had never interacted in person, since they have an intense activity in social networks.

In fact, his own father has verified that the alleged aggressors of his son are "known through the internet by teenagers in the area", since they have accounts on TikTok with videos that add up to tens of thousands of views.

"His son is alive because he is a strong kid. A normal 14-year-old boy dies from such a beating, "he recalls to GRAN MADRID the words that the Samur troops transferred to the father of the victim, after receiving initial medical attention.

Fortunately for the teenager, the encounter with the alleged gang members was not fatal, although he did require hospitalization and the aftermath has left in the air the possibility that he will have to undergo surgery. "They did a CT scan on my son and he has several fractures. This week we have to see again if they have to operate, "he laments. "He also," he continues, "has bruises on different parts of his body."

It also denounces "the great insecurity" existing in the neighborhood and the impunity with which these gang members move. "Many say they are afraid. Even merchants have told me that they fear for their own physical integrity and that of their establishments," he says helplessly.

Finally, the father of the victim takes the opportunity to praise "the wonderful work of the guardian agents [specialized in the prevention and protection of minors] of the Municipal Police." Despite the traumatic experience, her son was fine because "he was looking at their faces when they were talking about what happened." "They told him not to be afraid." says the father.
