Borrell repeated a joke behind the Ukrainian media about Russia's chairmanship in the UN Security Council.

"The beginning of Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council is suitable for April Fool's Day. Despite the fact that Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council, it constantly violates the very essence of the UN legal framework," he wrote on Twitter.

According to Borrell, the EU will confront "Russia's abuses as president."

Earlier, Russia's first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, announced the beginning of the country's chairmanship in the Security Council of the world organization.

Press Secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov noted that it will be saturated.

According to him, the Russian side intends to exercise all its rights, remaining a responsible member of the organization.

Prior to this, the White House said that there were no legal ways to deprive Russia of permanent membership in the UN Security Council. This was stated at a briefing by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, commenting on the fact that Russia will chair the UN Security Council in April.

She also recalled that the United States will chair the UN Security Council in August 2023.
