The visitors to the Assyrian New Year's Festival at Kulturhuset come mainly from Jönköping but also from nearby cities. The festival is organized by three Assyrian associations in Jönköping: Ashurföreningen, Babylonföreningen and Turabdinföreningen.
"This is huge for us and if we had a room for 2000 people, we would fill it," says Issam Koutcho, organizer.
In the Gregorian era used in most countries, it is known to be the year 2023. In the Assyrian era, it is the year 6773.
"The Assyrian New Year is like a national day when we remember our roots and celebrate that spring is coming," says Issam Koutcho.
