The goal is, among other things, to investigate whether the payments to Stormy Daniels have been incorrectly recorded as legal expenses.
- March 18, 2023: After indications that prosecutors made progress in the indictment over the payment of money to Stormy Daniels, Donald Trump writes that he will be arrested later this week, urging his followers to protest.
- March 30, 2023: The Manhattan Prosecutor's Office confirms that Donald Trump is being prosecuted. He becomes the first of America's ex-presidents to be indicted for crimes. The indictment is yet to be disclosed, but according to legal analysts, it is likely to be fraud and accounting violations in order to hide where the money went.
