• LANGUAGE The Andalusian nurse harassed by Catalan: "I'm afraid to go outside, they can beat me up"

The Department of Health of the Generalitat has decided not to renew the contract of the Andalusian nurse who criticized the requirement to accredit the C1 level of Catalan to qualify for a place in the public service. As EL MUNDO advanced, the link of the health with the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) ended this March 31.

The Generalitat opened proceedings against Begoña Suárez and summoned her on March 28 to give a "statement" before an instructor as "alleged accused" for having recorded a video in the facilities of the children's area of Vall d'Hebron, where the health worker worked until today.

The nurse was summoned under the decree that regulates the "disciplinary regime of the public service of the Administration of the Generalitat". After the first actions carried out, he is waiting for him to be notified within a month of the initiation of the file or the archiving of the proceedings, which, however, would be without effect since the health company is no longer contracted by the public company dependent on the Generalitat that now investigates it.

The 25-year-old from Cádiz has spent the last weeks off due to anxiety after being harassed for having clamored against the "fucking C1 of Catalan" through social networks. "Right now I'm very afraid to go outside. There are people who are very crazy and can come and beat me up. I have received a lot of threats," he transmitted to his hospital colleagues after revealing the Tik Tok video in which he charged against the linguistic demands of the Government.

The Minister of Health of the Generalitat himself participated in the pointing towards the nurse. "Statements like these are intolerable in a public servant. From the center to the Department of Health, we will get to the bottom of it. We open a file. The health system must guarantee care in Catalonia's own language," said Manel Balcells.

"From the strictly health point of view, patients need to be treated in their own language for their own health," Balcells would add days later in the Parliament.
