The City Council has thought of recruiting volunteer drivers from the Municipal Transport Company (EMT) as a solution to promote the collection of bicycles from the Bicimad public service, abandoned by users in different parts of the city. Some, even, in remote places such as private urbanizations, as acknowledged by the mayor himself, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, last Wednesday.

The recruitment of EMT personnel is being carried out through an internal notice sent from the human resources department of the Municipal Company, to which GRAN MADRID has had access.

The decalogue against the 'crisis' of Bicimad: informants at street level, 100 inspectors and 150 new bikes

Under the title, "voluntary request for withdrawal of bicycles from Bicimad", the notice sent to the workers indicates that "in order to increase the pace of the work of removing bicycles from public roads of the Bicimad service, the voluntary collaboration of the staff of the departments of workshops and bus driving belonging to the Directorate of Transport Services is necessary".

The notice details the conditions under which mechanics and drivers can participate. The change of functions will "initially" last two months (April and May), with a day of seven and a half hours, to be carried out in three different shifts. One in the morning (from 7:20 a.m. to 14:50 p.m.), another in the afternoon (from 15:00 p.m. to 22:30 p.m.) and a third at night (from 22:20 p.m. to 5:50 a.m.), with "Saturdays and Sundays free each week", although it is specified that "the necessary adjustments will be made once the assignment is completed".

The letter indicates that the transfer of personnel "will be carried out in strict order of arrival of the requests" and that in the process "the balance and needs of the staff" will be assessed.

39 additions

An offer that has been collected with skepticism and surprise by the EMT staff. "Let Almeida and Carabante go to pick up the bicycles," respond with irony union sources of the Municipal Company consulted by this newspaper.

Specifically, the work to be carried out by bus drivers and workshop staff "will focus on the removal of bicycles from public roads, transporting them to Bicimad stations or, where appropriate, to the Fuencarral Operations Center", which will be the starting and ending point of the day for the volunteers, to whom the corresponding change of department will be paid.

At the same time, yesterday morning, the delegate of Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, presented a decalogue against the Bicimad crisis. The councilor responsible for the service explained that the EMT will triple in the coming days the collection teams, going from 21 troops to 60. That is, 39 new additions that they intend to achieve with the internal notice sent to bus drivers and workshop personnel. "This is a very specific case in which it has been decided to find a solution without resorting to outsourcing while the transition of Bicimad lasts," they pointed out yesterday from the Mobility Area.

In addition, the figure of the informants will be implemented at street level to transfer the novelties of the service to the users, who will have 150 new bicycles.
