The company Ryde wanted to establish itself in Östersund with their electric scooters. But the agreement made by the municipality is not profitable enough for the company, while the municipality needs to charge a fee to cover their expenses.

"We have written the tariff proposal based on the costs we will incur if the scooters were to come to town. Then if the politicians want to go in and sponsor to get them here – it's up to politics, says Carola Jonsson, traffic engineer at Östersund municipality.

Now the municipality wants to make a change and is considering changing the proposed daily rate per electric scooter to be able to attract electric scooter companies.

"The central government (with S and C having a majority) agrees that they want to look at this," says Rosi Hoffer, a Social Democratic councillor.
