In an industrial building on Gåsebäck, about fifteen used sofas and armchairs are lined up in rows. Here, film producer and director Hussain Currimbhoy has put together his own cinema, where he will on Friday evening inaugurate Gåsebäck Film Festival - an idea he has wanted to realize since he moved to Helsingborg three years ago.

– I have worked with film fesivals for several years, all over the world, and felt that there was a need for a small film festival here in Helsingborg to bring together young directors and people who want to learn how to make films, says Hussain Currimbhoy.

International meets local

The repertoire includes both feature films and documentaries from different parts of the world. Several of them have previously been screened at major international film festivals, including Cannes.

Also shown is the short film "I Need Help", which was created during a summer colloquium at Dalhem. Together with "Oblivion", also from a Helsingborg-based filmmaker, it now gets its premiere on the big screen.

"It's all about community"

The festival has received support from the City of Helsingborg and Region Skåne, while several volunteers help out during the weekend. Hussein Currimbhoy hopes that the event will attract many film-interested Helsingborgers and make them feel at home in the salon.

"Everyone is welcome here. This is about community, about meeting each other and feeling comfortable.
