Admiral General Antonio Martorell Lacave, who held the position of Admiral Chief of Staff of the Navy (AJEMA) since February 2021, died this Friday in Madrid, as reported by the Ministry of Defense.

"It is a very sad day for the Ministry of Defense, for the Navy and for all the Armed Forces," lamented in a statement the Ministry of Defense, whose owner, Margarita Robles, has already transmitted to her relatives and relatives her condolences.

The Council of Ministers appointed Martorell Lacave after his predecessor, Admiral Teodoro López Calderón, was appointed chief of the Defense Staff (JEMAD).

Martorell, married with three children, was born in Bilbao on August 22, 1960 and obtained in 1984 the job of ensign of the General Corps of the Navy.

He was a graduate of the General Staff, specialist in Submarine Weapons and throughout his career he was second commander, chief of Operations and head of Combat System, and later commander of the minesweeper Miño, the minehunter Turia and the amphibious assault ship Castilla, among others.

At NATO, he held positions as head of the EU Area of the Directorate-General for Defence Policy, head of the Logistics Division, commander of Naval Action Group 2, admiral of Naval Action, commander of Operation Atalanta and commander of the High Readiness Maritime Headquarters.
