– We have decided that Tiktok is not a permitted application in the service mobiles, says Peter Gustavsson, head of security at the Swedish Transport Agency.

He goes on to say that the authority is now looking at how the phones can be used and which apps can be installed.

You can hear more about how the authority thinks about the apps in the video.

The Swedish Migration Agency, the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration, and the Swedish Maritime Administration have also stopped Tiktok in service mobiles. The prison service is about to ban the app in the near future. Several of the authorities also believe that the app has nothing to do with the performance of its duties and therefore should not be on the phones.

Other apps also not harmless

David Lindahl, a research engineer at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, FOI, says that the concern about Tiktok in particular is based on other states' intelligence services that suspect that information may be passed on to Chinese intelligence organizations.

"It's reasonable for us to look at Tiktok, but we should also look at other social media apps that also collect a lot of information from users. For example, can we trust everyone who works for Facebook?

He also mentions the example of Whatsapp which asks for access to all your contacts upon installation. Is it a good thing to have on your work phone?
