"Almost all my dresses come from just second hand, that I either bought fabrics and sewn myself or simply bought second-hand for some dog ring and they are just as nice for that," says Malena Ernman.

In the lounge behind the main stage, Malena Ernman is preparing for Friday night's anniversary concert at Uppsala concert and congress. After thirty years on the stage, thirty of her more famous dresses are also on display. Two of them will be auctioned off during the evening.

A thousand second-hand dresses at home

Most of Malena Erman's wardrobe, not least when it comes to stage clothes, is just second hand. The rule is that the clothes should cost under a thousand crowns, but preferably for a fifty-dollar bill.

"You should be able to throw them into a bag and not worry about something being destroyed," she says.
