Brussels, 3 Mar (ZXS) -- The Chinese mission to the European Union announced on 30 March that Fu Cong, head of the Chinese mission to the European Union, gave an exclusive interview to the media to clarify his position on Sino-European relations, China-EU economic and trade cooperation, and the Ukraine crisis.

Regarding China-EU relations, Fu Cong said that China-EU relations have a good foundation, and European leaders have recently visited China. At a time when the world is undergoing profound and complex changes, the prospects for global economic growth are bleak, and as two major forces, two markets and two civilizations, the importance of China and Europe joining hands to meet global challenges and boost the global economy has become more prominent.

Fu Cong stressed that China hopes to actively promote China-EU relations, but this must be premised on mutual respect. Without correct cognition, we are still looking at the new era with old thinking, which is not in line with the trend of history.

Regarding China-EU economic and trade cooperation, Fu Cong said that China-EU bilateral trade and investment achieved strong growth last year, and the European economic community is full of confidence in the Chinese market, but the EU has introduced a series of trade policy tools in recent years, and protectionism has risen. China-EU relations are affected, and the problem is not on the Chinese side.

Fu Cong pointed out that politicizing China-EU economic and trade relations runs counter to the expectations of all walks of life in Europe and harms Europe's own interests. Under pressure from the United States, relevant European countries have set restrictions on the export of semiconductor equipment to China, which violates the principle of market economy and the foundation of free trade. The EU should adhere to strategic autonomy and develop EU-US relations at the expense of China-EU relations.

Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Fu Cong said that China has always stood on the side of peace and the side of most countries, and China's position is, in the final analysis, to persuade peace and promote talks, and the most urgent task is to cease fire and stop the war and save lives. Sino-Russian relations are non-aligned, non-confrontational, non-aimed at third parties, and are not military alliances. China-Russia relations are not subject to third parties, and the same applies to China-EU relations.

Fu Cong stressed that China-EU relations are multi-dimensional, and China-EU relations cannot be viewed only from the perspective of the Ukraine crisis, and the two cannot be tied with political intentions. Although China and the EU have different views, striving for peace is the common goal of both sides, and China is willing to work with the EU to promote the peace process. (End)
