A Syrian military source announced that two soldiers were wounded and material damage was caused by a new Israeli aggression that targeted with missiles points in the vicinity of the city of Damascus.

The source said in a statement to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), "At about 1:20 am today (Friday local time), the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with a number of missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of the city of Damascus, and our air defense means confronted the aggression missiles and shot down some of them."

The source added that the aggression "led to the injury of two military personnel and some material losses."

The German Press Agency reported that 6 strong explosions were heard in areas south and west of the capital, Damascus, noting that the air defenses of the Syrian army launched anti-ground weapons.

This attack is the second in 24 hours, as a Syrian military source confirmed that the first attack at dawn on Thursday led to the injury of two soldiers and some material damage.

For its part, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed that "the Israeli terrorist aggression on the vicinity of Damascus is a continuation of the fascist approach towards the peoples and countries of the region," stressing the need to put an end to these attacks so that the region can enjoy peace.

Since mid-March 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on Syria, which it says are aimed at preventing Iran from entrenching its military presence there.

The developments come days after the Pentagon announced that a drone bombed a maintenance facility at a coalition base near Hasaka in northeastern Syria last week, killing an American contractor and wounding another American contractor, in addition to 5 US troop members. The drone is believed to have originated from Iran.
