Reuters quoted the Pentagon on Thursday that 6 US soldiers in Syria suffered traumatic brain injuries during two different attacks last week carried out by Iranian-backed militants, adding that their cases were diagnosed during routine examinations in recent days.

The ministry did not provide further details on the severity of the new injuries suffered by its soldiers and revealed them today.

This brings the toll of casualties among US forces as a result of strikes and counterstrikes last week, which killed one American contractor and wounded another, in addition to wounding 6 American soldiers.

The Pentagon also estimated that 8 militants were killed during retaliatory US air strikes on two Iran-linked facilities in Syria.

Rocket attacks and attack drones targeted three U.S. bases in Syria last week, killing one U.S. contractor and wounding another and six U.S. soldiers. U.S. forces responded with air strikes and exchanges of fire that Syrian sources said killed three Syrian soldiers, 3 fighters in pro-government factions and 6 non-Syrian militants.

It is noteworthy that US forces were deployed for the first time in Syria during the campaign of the administration of former US President Barack Obama, which targeted the Islamic State, in partnership with the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces, which are led and dominated by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

About 900 U.S. troops are deployed in Syria, mostly in the east of the country. According to the US military, before the recent series of attacks in Syria, US forces were subjected to about 78 attacks from Iranian-backed groups since the beginning of 2021.
