NHK's budget for the new fiscal year and fiscal 2023 was approved by a majority of the LDP, Constitutional Democratic Party, New Komeito, Japan Restoration Party, National Democratic Party, and Social Democratic Party at a plenary session of the House of Councillors on March 30.
As a result, the NHK budget has been approved by the Diet.

NHK's fiscal 2023 budget includes 6440 billion yen in business revenues and 6720 billion yen in business expenditures, and the deficit of 280 billion yen in the difference in business income and expenditure, which is calculated by subtracting expenses from revenues, will be covered by "carryforwards for financial stability."

In addition to reducing the subscription fee by 10% for both terrestrial and satellite contracts from October, the plan includes strengthening the dissemination of reliable information that supports the safety of people's lives and expanding the distribution of news programs for local communities through NHK Plus.

In December, we will launch the tentative names "New BS1K" and "New BS3K" before reducing satellite waves by one at the end of March next year.

The NHK budget was questioned and voted on at the House of Councillors' General Affairs Committee on March 1, followed by a vote at a plenary session of the House of Councillors.

As a result, it was approved by a majority of the Liberal Democratic Party, Constitutional Democratic Party, New Komeito, Japan Restoration Party, National Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, and others.

On the other hand, the Communist Party, Reiwa Shinsengumi, 12 Women's Politicians Party, and the Suffragist Party opposed it.

In addition, the committee decided on a supplementary resolution.

The resolution states that when reducing satellite waves, attention should continue to be paid to the organization of programs that meet the diverse needs of viewers, and careful explanations and dissemination should be provided.

Amid further progress in the integration of broadcasting and communications, continue to seriously consider the state of public broadcasting and subscription fees.

We are asking NHK to introduce the unique appeals of the region, enhance content that contributes to the revitalization and development of the region, and actively disseminate information both domestically and internationally.

Since the NHK budget was approved by the House of Representatives and then the House of Councillors, it was approved by the Diet.
