Its price could reach 35 million dollars. A very rare pink diamond goes up for auction in New York

Sotheby's announced Wednesday that a pink diamond "among the very rare diamonds" will go up for auction in New York in November for an estimated price of $35 million.

The precious 10.57-carat stone mined in 2019 from a mine in Botswana with a total weight of 23.78 carats will be sold on June <> in New York.

Sotheby's said the auction for the Eternal Pink diamond, which has an estimated price of $35 million, will take place during a jewellery sales week.

Sotheby's head of jewellery sales, Alexander Ebelin, told AFP: "We are dealing with the rarest diamond of rare pieces, with a stone like no other."

"One carat of a diamond was estimated to be worth $3.3 million, and its estimated price is therefore just over $35 million, the highest estimated value of one carat of any gemstone on the market."

In New York's booming auction market, Sotheby's, Christie's and Phillips are offering pieces from different fields beyond paintings and sculptures, including jewelry, clothing and collectibles of stars from art, literature and sports.

Sotheby's noted that the pink diamond that investors are very interested in buying, "is much rarer than a painting by the Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte or a painting by American folk art guru Andy Warhol," because of its purity and quality.

The world record for a pink diamond was set in 2017, when a stone was sold in Hong Kong for $71.2 million. In 2022, the Williamson Pink Star Pink Diamond was also sold in Hong Kong for $57.7 million.
