This is stated in the column of Nathaniel Greenberg, professor at George Mason University, USA.

"Cooperation between Egypt and Russia in the information sphere is rooted in the era of the Cold War. Of the examples of relatively recent interaction, we can recall 2018, when the Egyptian Middle East News Agency MENA, together with the online platform of the newspaper Al-Ahram, the oldest news outlet in the country, signed an "agreement" with Russian officials to "develop cooperation and expand broadcasting in Egypt and Russia."

Greenberg emphasizes that this agreement "was followed by a sharp increase in the popularity of the RT Arabic television channel, which is part of the Russian state television network RT."

As a result, the channel immediately became the most visited news site in the country after Youm 7, a semi-official information portal that often reposts Russian media reports. Thus, Egypt has become the largest audience of RT Arabic, "the column says.

Earlier, the head of RT Arabic, Maya Manna, said that the channel found a way out of the situation after the European Union forced the largest satellite telecommunications company - the French Eutelsat - to ban the broadcasting of RT Arabic.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that by continuing to expand the policy of restricting the work of unwanted media, Brussels undermines the values on which the European Union was once built.
