Pakistani and English social media platforms celebrated the appointment of Fawzia Younis as Britain's consul general in Toronto, becoming the first Muslim woman to hold such a position in British history.

After taking office, Fawzia wrote in a tweet on March 24, "I am honored to be appointed British Consul General in Toronto, I think it is the first time that a Muslim woman has headed a diplomatic post, but it certainly will not be the last."

In the same tweet, Fawzia, a British diplomat of Pakistani origin, credited her family, saying it was "to my father, who used to take me to the bus station at four in the morning to get to job interviews, and to my late mother, who supported me and waited for me during my university years at the bus station so that I would not cross the dark streets alone."
