A man died after throwing himself from a California Highway Patrol car he was driving at breakneck speed on the highway after it was stolen on Tuesday.

US media broadcast a video of the incident in Los Angeles County, where it documented the moment the suspect opened the door of the car after one of its wheels exploded and had difficulty controlling it.

The thief jumped out of the car in an attempt to escape from police patrols that were chasing him, but his head and body hit the road, and officers tried to resuscitate him before taking him to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another video clip circulated documented the moment the person stole the car belonging to the Highway Patrol after it arrived to inspect a road accident in which he was involved.

Media reported that the suspect suffers from severe psychological problems, and was able to steal the car belonging to the highway patrol after it arrived to inspect a road accident in which he was involved.
